Other Activities
An acknowledged expert on the music of Duke Ellington and Thad Jones, Tony was Musical Co-ordinator for the International Duke Ellington Conference, “Ellington ‘97″ in Leeds.
Since about 1989, he has directed the Leeds College of Music’s “Duke Ellington Repertory Orchestra”. Among the band’s achievements are the first complete performance in Europe of Ellington’s “Such Sweet Thunder” Suite and a performance of “Night Creature” with the Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. In 2004 the band gave the UK premiere performance of “A Drum is a Woman”.
